B.E.S.T. StandardsSocial Studies (Grade 4)
  • SS.4.A.8.1 – Identify Florida’s role in the Civil Rights Movement.
    Students will connect national events, such as the March on Washington, to how Florida contributed to the broader Civil Rights Movement.
  • SS.4.A.8.AP.1 – Recognize that Florida played a role in the Civil Rights Movement.
    Students will identify that Florida communities and leaders were part of the broader struggle for civil rights in America.

English Language Arts (Grade 4)
  • ELA.4.R.2.3 – Explain an author’s perspective toward a topic in an informational text.
    Students will analyze MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech, a diary excerpt, and photographs to explain the perspectives of children, leaders, and participants in the Civil Rights Movement.
  • ELA.4.C.1.4 – Write expository texts about a topic, using multiple sources, elaboration, and an organizational structure with transitions.
    Students will write a reflection paragraph explaining why young voices matter in social change, citing at least two sources, expanding their ideas with elaboration, and using transitions for clarity.
